The European Union is escalating its financial warfare against Moscow with a sweeping proposal to block all cryptocurrency transactions linked to Russia. This radical MOVE aims to sever digital lifelines that have allowed Russian trade networks to circumvent existing sanctions. The package specifically targets the digital ruble and 20 additional banks, marking Brussels' most aggressive attempt yet to close crypto-based escape routes.

Officials are taking a scorched-earth approach - rather than playing whack-a-mole with individual entities, the EU plans blanket prohibitions on all Russia-based crypto services. The strategy reflects growing concerns about Moscow's ability to quickly reconfigure financial networks through ruble-pegged stablecoins and emerging payment rails developed since the initial invasion of Ukraine.

Kyrgyzstan has emerged as a particular concern, identified by EU monitors as a key hub for rerouted Russian trade. The proposal also seeks to dismantle copycat crypto platforms that have sprung up to replace banned services, representing a comprehensive assault on Moscow's alternative financial infrastructure.
